66-year-old man linked to Liverpool takeover is twice as rich as Zuckerberg
Steve Ballmer could be among those interested in buying Liverpool.
Earlier this week, Fenway Sports Group dropped a bombshell when they revealed they would be opening up to sell the Anfield kit.
Since then there has been a lot of reported interest, with even Conor McGregor admitting he has reached out to discuss a possible takeover.
Now The Liverpool Echo are reporting that Ballmer could be a candidate.
Who is Steve Ballmer?
The 66-year-old is a former Microsoft CEO who has branched out into sports-related businesses.
The Detroit-born billionaire owns the NBA outfit Los Angeles Clippers and in 2020 he was voted the best basketball owner following a survey by The Athletic.
Net worth of Steve Ballmer
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, which is updated at the end of each New York trading day, Ballmer is worth £85 billion.
For context, Ballmer, who is 10th on this list of the richest people in the world, is twice as well off as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, is worth just £41.4billion and is 27th on the same list.
Whether the links to Liverpool are credible remains to be seen and, honestly, there are going to be a lot more interested parties that are the subject of articles by a sale by FSG.
But if he was voted the best owner in basketball, his ownership record in the sport must be relatively decent and that will no doubt please the millions who support Jurgen Klopp’s side.
