The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced on Tuesday that it has set up a 24/7 helpline to assist you with digital payment products and services. The helpline is called DigiSaathi and will also be accessible on WhatsApp with all the information customers need regarding digital payment products and services.

The DigiSaathi was launched on behalf of a consortium of payment system operators and participants comprising banks and non-bank financial entities, NPCI said.

DigiSaathi was recently launched by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das. It is an automated response system that helps customers answer their queries related to debit and credit cards, UPI, NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, PPI wallets, ATMs, and mobile and net banking, among others.

“DigiSaathi is available to customers via the website and chatbot at www.digisaathi.info, via free calls – 14431 & 1800 891 3333 and on WhatsApp via messaging on +91 892 891 3333. The service will soon be available on more of social media channels to meet customer requirements,” the NPCI added.

“DigiSaathi will assist users with all their queries about digital payments via chatbot facility on WhatsApp by simply sending a message to +91 892 891 3333. The facility will soon be available on other social media channels as well,” the NPCI said in a statement Tuesday.

The Consortium of payment system operators and participants, including ecosystem partners, banks, card networks, PPIs, fintechs, the Payments Council of India (PCI) and the Indian Banks’ Association ( IBA), have come together to implement this to enable people to embrace digital payments with even greater conviction.

DigiSaathi which is available in English and Hindi even guides them on how to avail or use a particular product or service. DigiSaathi also assists clients with transaction-related queries, guiding them and sharing contact details of relevant banks/institutions.

“FAQs (frequently asked questions) and automated responses listed on DigiSaathi are reviewed periodically to provide more up-to-date and accurate answers to callers/users,” he said.

Recently, several users took to Twitter to complain about not being able to pay through UPI, which had been down for over an hour. They said they were unable to transfer money through different apps including Google Pay and PhonePe. They were told that the payment had failed after long processing times.

However, later the NPCI said in a tweet: “UPI services are operating as usual. Some users may have experienced issues while using UPI for a brief period around 8 p.m. today. The momentary issue with some UPI ecosystem partners has been resolved.”

The Unified Payment Interface (UPI) accounts for over 60% of retail transactions in India. The majority of these transactions are low value, with lower transaction volumes ₹100 representing 75% of the total. UPI recorded transactions worth 540 crore ₹9.60 lakh crore in March.
