Facebook Messenger Adds Custom QR Codes For Facebook Pay Transactions
Facebook makes it easy to send money in Messenger. The app now supports Venmo-style QR codes and custom links for person-to-person payments with Facebook Pay. With the update, users can access their QR code and link in Messenger settings to request payment. Facebook notes that the features work even if you’re not already friends on Facebook, which should make it easier to send or request payments from strangers.
It might not seem like the most important use case, but it could be especially handy for those who buy and sell on Facebook Marketplace, where transactions often start on Messenger. Now, instead of turning to Venmo or some other third-party app to finalize payment, buyers and sellers might have more of an incentive to use Facebook Pay instead. The feature is only available in the United States for now, but the company has said additional updates will be “soon”.
Messenger also introduced a few other new features, including a new “quick reply” bar for replying to photos and videos, and new chat themes for personalizing inboxes.
