Facebook Messenger DOWN again! Thousands of people affected by another Facebook outage

UPDATE OF SATURDAY APRIL 24: After a major outage last week, the gremlins are back for Messenger with service again this Saturday night. Users are complaining that they cannot access the Facebook-owned service with thousands of reports pouring in.

ORIGINAL STORY: If you try and fail to send messages through Messenger, you are not alone. The Facebook-owned service suffered a strange outage this morning, with some users complaining that the chat app is down and not working.

The tech gremlins appear to have started around 9:30 am this morning with reports still pouring in that messages and chats are not being sent.

Down Detector, which monitors outages across the world, is showing a huge spike in complaints, with problems increasing second by second. At the time of writing, there were some 700 reports per minute being published that Messenger is down.

It is not yet clear what is causing the bug or how many people are affected, but social media is now teeming with Messenger fans confirming they cannot use the app.

Speaking on Twitter, a Messenger fan said: “Lol is a messenger down or our internet is just slow and slow?”

While another added: “My messenger is breaking down.”

Not all users seem to have been affected by the bug and the Facebook status page shows that everything is working normally, so it’s unclear why some Messenger fans are having issues sending chats.

Facebook usually fixes crashes fairly quickly, so expect a resolution soon.
