Here’s how you can create WhatsApp group polls
Crawl closer to launch
WhatsApp is evolving regularly, working on new features like the one we just saw that will eventually make it easier to import your chat backup. Another upcoming feature that we first heard about in April would allow you to create polls for your group chats. The work clearly went on behind the scenes, and now the latest beta version of the app reveals additional details about how polls work in WhatsApp chats.
Last spring, we got our first look at this in-development survey creation interface, allowing you to ask a question and offering up to 12 answer options. WABetaInfo was initially only able to access this screen with a manual hack, but now reports that the new WhatsApp for Android beta 18.104.22.168 reveals how we will most likely access this menu. The option to create a poll appears as the seventh option on the chat action sheet accessed by tapping the paperclip icon in the WhatsApp message box.
We may see the ultimate placement change, but we’ll likely have something similar on the iOS and desktop versions when it finally becomes official. The implementation seems intuitive, as attaching a poll to chat is in the same ballpark as attaching media, location pin, or document.
Interestingly, while WABetaInfo notes that the feature is intended for group chats, the screenshot above shows the chat action sheet in a conversation with an individual. This might suggest that creating polls will be available for face-to-face and group discussions, the like.
Platforms that allow communities and large groups to interact, including Instagram, Telegram, and Twitter, have had similar polling features for years. WhatsApp’s implementation is still a work in progress hidden from beta testers, and details could change during testing ahead of its global release – whenever that happens.
