Hillary Vaughn: Mark Zuckerberg Spent Almost As Much As Federal Government To Oversee 2020 Election | Video
LARRY KUDLOW: I want to skip past an explosive story from Molly Hemingway’s book and additional reports on how Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg influenced and may have changed the whole election fight against Donald Trump. Either way, we’ll start with Hillary Vaughn on Capitol Hill.
HILLARY VAUGHN: Hello, Larry. Mark Zuckerberg spent almost as much money as the federal government in 2020 to make sure the presidential election goes off without a hitch during the pandemic.
The government has made $ 479 million available to state and local governments to help them. Mark Zuckerberg donated $ 419 million of his own money which he donated to nonprofits that put money into local election offices. But that raises a red flag, as a review of where the money goes helped secure the vote for President Biden in 2020.
A new report details how Zuckerberg’s hard cash could have influenced participation in key districts. They found that in the Battlefield State of Georgia, more money had been poured into counties Biden won than Trump. The dollar difference is huge. $ 29 million went to Biden-won counties in Georgia. About seven dollars spent per registered voter. $ 2 million went to counties Trump won. Less than $ 2 was spent on every voter there.
Some researchers question the money, claiming that these dollars could have made a big difference in Georgia and Wisconsin, stating this, “an analysis conducted by our team showed that this money significantly increased Joe’s voting margin. Biden in these key states. The spending was sufficiently large and targeted. enough to have moved them into Biden’s column. ”
Zuckerberg spokesman said every polling station that asked for money received money. More Republican counties ultimately got the money than Democratic counties. And also said this in a statement: “Mark and Priscilla provided a block grant to ensure funding was available, they were not involved in the process to determine which jurisdictions received funding.”
This has prompted some Capitol Hill lawmakers to ask questions. Senator Rand Paul, asking: Did Zuckerberg buy the election?
LARRY KUDLOW: Hillary, two quickies, which I understood from reading Mollie Hemingway’s work … It wasn’t so much if it was a Democratic district or a Republican district. They poured money into swing neighborhoods and helped them turn against Trump and for Biden.
HILLARY VAUGHN: When you look at the money where the money has gone, that’s the key. You could argue this case in some counties in Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania. Another part of this story is really unraveling Larry, it’s about where that money was supposed to go.
A lot of these election officials spent that money to get voter turnout, but also to promote universal mail-in ballots and also go door-to-door and help people get those ballots delivered. So there are a lot of questions from Republicans asking if or all of this was not ethical or partisan, which would make things unacceptable.
