Man sentenced for assaulting wife over WhatsApp message

Police said the accused was convicted under Articles 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for willfully injuring, 504 for insult and 506 for criminal intimidation.
A man beat his wife after he was upset by a message she posted on WhatsApp. The woman subsequently registered an FIR against her husband, accusing him of assault at Hasanganj Police Station on Tuesday.
According to FIR, Renu Shukla, a housewife and resident of the CSIR settlement under the confines of Hasanganj Police Station approached the police on Tuesday and accused her husband Mridul of mistreating and assaulting her.
In her complaint, Renu said her husband was angry with her for sharing her WhatsApp status and started abusing her shortly after returning home at around 9 p.m. on Monday. She alleged that Mridul assaulted her when she opposed his abuse. She said Mridul asked her to stop sharing WhatsApp in the future and threatened her with dire consequences.
In her complaint, she claimed that her husband did not stop beating her until their son intervened.
Police said the accused was convicted under Articles 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for willfully injuring, 504 for insult and 506 for criminal intimidation. Lucknow Police Commissioner (PC) DK Thakur said the investigator was ordered to summon the accused and take severe action against him based on the findings of the investigation.
