Mark Zuckerberg told Tim Ferriss how he deals with discomfort

In a recent conversation with 4 hour work week author and podcaster Tim Ferriss Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg explained how he trained himself to deal with discomfort, which must be a pretty big part of his job given the widespread criticism leveled at the social platform on a semi-regular basis. .

According to Zuckerberg, he has developed a set of methods to manage his own energy and prevent his attention from being diverted in his daily routine.

“If I try to go straight into the day, every morning when I wake up and read my emails and get the news, it’s almost like I’m getting punched,” he said. he declares. “I found it’s really important to do something physical and something meditative to take my mind off things for an hour, so I can reset and go to work, that’s really important. It’s why things like foiling and surfing have been really important to me, because when you’re out there on the water it’s pretty hard to focus on anything else.”

“It’s almost like I’ve subconsciously sorted out all the things, all the news that’s happened in the world, and now it’s like OK, let’s go,” he continued.

Not that his first instinct in a real emergency is to put on his wetsuit and grab his board. But Zuckerberg thinks the days he’s able to find that physical outlet are when he’s most productive. “A key part of that is having a great squad,” he adds. “It’s not primarily about me at this point… The way I crafted this system for me isn’t necessarily something that would work for a lot of other people.”
