NU takes second place after day one of Columbia 300 Saints
Valley Park, Mo – The Nebraska bowling team ranks 2nd after the first day of the Columbia 300 Saints Invitational with a 3-1 record and a total of 5,100 points.
The Huskers started traditional-style games against Maryville. In this game, Kayla Verstraete threw eight straight strikes to help the Huskers claim their first win of the day (1,087-973). In Game 2, Nebraska fell to McKendree (962-1,002), but rebounded in Game 3 against Central Missouri to claim their second victory by a score of 1,060-881. The Huskers faced Wisconsin Whitewater in game four where they hit all shots in the second frame and picked up another victory (1,019-906). Nebraska finished the day with a bye and scored 972.
Three Huskers made the Top 10 in individual play. Kayla Verstraete earned second place with a total pinfall of 1,082 with Ray Cassidy (1,080) just behind in third. Not far after the lies Kendyl Hofmeister (1,003) in eighth and Crystal Elliott (938) in 12th. michelle guarro (658) landed in 20th place followed by Amara Smith Speights (339) in 29th.
Bowling will resume Sunday at 8:30 a.m. with Baker-style play. The combined results of Saturday and Sunday’s pinfall will determine the winner.
