Reynolds and New Zealand fall 3-1 to South Korea in Davis Cup qualifiers

NEWPORT, RI – Ole Miss Rebel Finn reynolds and the New Zealand national tennis team were beaten by South Korea, 3-1, in the ITF Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Reynolds, scheduled for Game 5, did not participate on Saturday as South Korea claimed victory ahead of Reynolds’ scheduled game against Ji Sung Nam.

With this loss, New Zealand will move on to the World Group I qualifiers in 2022. South Korea advance to the 2022 Davis Cup qualifying phase.

New Zealand were 2-0 down by South Korea in Saturday’s matches. The Kiwi’s bronze medalist duo Marcus Daniell and Michael Venus won New Zealand’s first match point with a three-set doubles victory over South Koreans Nam and Min-Kyu Song. After losing the first set, 4-6, Daniell and Venus rebounded to win the second and third sets 6-2 and 6-4. South Korea remained within one win from the win ahead of 2-1.

Soonwoo Kwon sealed a 3-1 victory for South Korea by beating Rubin Statham in straight sets. Kwon won 6-3, 6-3 and was the only player to tie two wins.

Reynolds’ first game of the fall varsity season will be at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, starting October 1.

Soonwoo Kwon (KOR) defeated. Rubin Statham (NZL), 6-3, 6-3
