Three police officers sanctioned for WhatsApp photos of two black sisters

THREE METROPOLITAN police officers who received photos of two dead black women during a group chat have been disciplined after failing to report the disturbing images to senior officers.

Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, were brutally stabbed to death by a lone assailant, Danyal Hussein, in a park in northwest London.

The two sisters were later found dead and submerged in the undergrowth of Fryent Country Park on June 7, 2020.

Ex-police officers Deniz Jaffer, 48, and Jamie Lewis, 33, were tasked with guarding the crime scene but instead took photos of the two victims and sent them in a WhatsApp group to colleagues, calling their bodies lifeless “dead birds”. ”

The three officers, who are based with the North East Command Unit, admitted serious misconduct for failing to sound the alarm after receiving the offensive footage following Wednesday’s meetings.

Both PCs were slapped with written warnings but were allowed to keep their jobs following heavy criticism from the police watchdog over the Met’s handling of the case.

Commander Paul Brogden said: ‘We are sorry for the truly despicable actions of PCs Jaffer and Lewis, and the behavior of the other officers, and how this has added to the distress and suffering of the sisters’ loved ones.

“These issues, along with other high profile cases in the Met, have been an urgent catalyst for change.

“We are working hard to begin to restore public confidence that police officers will protect and respect them.”

Jaffer and Lewis were sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars after pleading guilty to gross misconduct in the performance of their public duties and recently tried to appeal their sentences.

Hussein was sentenced to a minimum of 35 years for the “shocking and chilling attack” on the two sisters.

They had celebrated the older sister’s birthday on the evening of June 5 with friends before their brutal murders.
