Tottenham star Harry Kane becomes Leyton Orient sponsor for next season, donates shirt space to three charities
Leyton Orient has announced that Tottenham and England star Harry Kane will be their new shirt sponsor for the 2020/21 season.
In January 2011, Kane joined the O’s on loan and they made his professional football debut, and he scored his first career goal against Sheffield on Wednesday a few weeks later.
The rest of his career is a well-told story; a decisive 30-goal season with Spurs, his first England goal in the first 80 seconds of his debut, a World Cup Golden Boot…
But Kane hasn’t forgotten his roots, with Leyton Orient confirming he will sponsor the club from Breyer Group Stadium next season.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce that Harry Kane has taken our sponsorship on the front of the jersey for the 2020/21 season,” read a statement from Orient.
“With the approval of the Premier League, the FA and the EFL, a first such deal has been reached of which the club are extremely proud.”
Kane will not have his name on Orient shirts next season, however.
Instead, he donated the sponsorship of the jersey to three separate causes: the home jersey features a thank you message to frontline workers, the away jersey is for Haven House Children’s Hospice, and the third jersey was donated to Mind, the mental health charity.
The statement added, “This donation will allow benefactors to receive hospitality, where guests of Haven House and Mind can escape reality for an afternoon at Breyer Group Stadium to enjoy The O’s in action.
“They will also get huge coverage during the season, and we are happy to announce that 10% of the proceeds from each shirt sale will be donated to this charity.”
“I was born and raised just a few miles from the stadium and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to give back to the club that gave me my first professional start,” Kane said of his incredible gesture. .
“It also gives me a platform to be able to say a big thank you to the many frontline heroes and charities providing care and support in these difficult times.”
Danny Macklin, from the east Managing Director, added, “What started with a simple idea has turned into a very unique and touching shirt sponsorship deal.
“When we spoke to England captain Harry Kane and his team at CK66 we all decided we wanted it to be unique.
“We wanted to thank you for the exceptional hard work and dedication of the frontline heroes during this pandemic and also draw attention to the other charities who have all suffered financial losses as a result of the pandemic. “
“We are going through uncertain and worrying times around the world, but through their efforts we will get through this together.”
“Thank you, Harry, for your incredible support and generosity – you are a true role model for modern gaming. “
All three Leyton Orient shirts are available for immediate pre-order on the official club shop.
