Vancleave Man Arrested for Allegedly Selling Stolen Utility Trailers on Facebook | New
VANCLEAVE, Mississippi (WALA) – A man from Vancleave has been arrested for robbery after allegedly selling stolen utility trailers on Facebook Marketplace, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell said the D’Iberville Police Department helped investigators arrest Nieko Bing, 31, on Monday night in D’Iberville. Bing was charged with two counts of robbery and held in the adult detention center without bail pending an initial hearing, authorities said.
Two trailers have been stolen in the past two weeks from construction sites in the community of St. Martin, according to Ezell. The first was recovered the next day after investigators determined it had been sold on Facebook.
The second trailer was found in Livingston, Louisiana on Monday. She, too, was sold online and picked up within hours of being reported missing. With the help of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department, investigators returned the trailer to the owner in St. Maarten, authorities said.
No more arrests possible in this case. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 228-769-3063 or Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department suggests that anyone buying or selling property on Facebook have a written bill of sale and / or photo of the buyer’s / seller’s state-issued ID. Also get a description of the buyer’s / seller’s vehicle and tag number. Go to a safe public place, preferably during the day. Make sure people you trust know who you are meeting and the time and place of the meeting, authorities said.
