WhatsApp Desktop users will soon be able to request a report on collected account information

WhatsApp Desktop has reportedly added a feature allowing users to request the Meta-owned instant messaging app to report on their account information and settings. Called Request Account Info, the dedicated option was previously available to mobile users on Android and iOS. It allows users to submit a request to WhatsApp and export the report containing their activity information, privacy settings, and information about the devices from which they access the messaging app.

According to a report by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Desktop beta 2.2204.1 contains references to the Request account information option. The addition has not yet been made available to beta testers, however.

By bringing the account information request feature, WhatsApp seeks to allow desktop users to generate a report containing their account information and settings.

Similar to what has now been found on its desktop version, WhatsApp added the same option to request account information on Android and iOS devices in 2018. It was introduced before the passage of the EU Privacy Act. the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and aims to let users see all the information WhatsApp has collected through their account.

Once requested, WhatsApp typically takes three days to make your report available for download and export. Mobile device users have the option to permanently delete the downloaded copy.

It is important to note that the report generated using the request account information feature does not allow users to access the messages and conversations they have made on WhatsApp, because Underline in an FAQ page.

The exact timeline of the feature’s availability for WhatsApp Desktop users has yet to be revealed. Also, it is unclear if the feature will be limited to WhatsApp Desktop or will be available for web users as well.
