WhatsApp starts rolling out reactions to messages, but not to everyone

According to WABetaInfoWhatsApp has started rolling out feedback messages to some Android beta testers running version 2.22.8.3 of the app.

Dating back to January, we reported that WhatsApp was working to bring iMessage-like message reactions to its app. At the time, a Reactions Notifications toggle was added to WhatsApp version 22.2.72 on iOS. Now the feature is rolling out for Android users. Of course, this is still a limited release and it will be available to more users in the coming months.

According to WABetaInfo report, six reactions namely Like, Love, Laugh, Surprised, Sad and Thank you are available to react to posts. If you use Telegram, Discord or Slack, you are probably familiar with this feature.

Additionally, it’s still unclear if message reactions are available for group chats, individual chats, or both. In Telegram and Slack, you can have reactions in both chats. WhatsApp can follow the same path.

WhatsApp wants to bridge the gap with Telegram

Over the past few months, we’ve regularly heard about new features coming to WhatsApp. Some reviewers think the Facebook-owned messaging app lags far behind its competitors in terms of usability and the addition of new features. That’s why WhatsApp has started developing a bunch of new features.

The queue of features that could be coming to WhatsApp is quite long. However, bringing new drawing tools and a search message shortcut to find specific messages are some of the most notable. Both features would be very convenient for users.

Also, the last queue feature spotted by tipsters is a poll feature. Telegram has been supporting polls since 2018, and it’s a shame for WhatsApp not to have a similar feature.

The feature is spotted during WhatsApp’s latest beta for iOS and may find its way to the Android beta in the coming months. Given the long queue of features in development, polling functionality may not appear in stable releases anytime soon. Also, the source suggests that creating polls is only possible in groups and is end-to-end encrypted.
